Practice Areas

Levine Smith Snider & Coburn is a full-service family law firm involved in all practice areas relevant to family and domestic relations law. We have many years of experience in handling all aspects of family law including divorce, child custody and complex property divisions. The scope of our practice areas includes:

DIVORCE
We represent clients in contested and uncontested divorce matters, including complex financial cases involving alimony, child support and the equitable division of marital property.

PROPERTY DIVISION
Our attorneys guide clients through the process of the equitable division of marital property, including asset discovery and property valuations.

ALIMONY
Levine Smith Snider & Coburn attorneys have many years of experience helping clients calculate appropriate alimony or “spousal support.” As Georgia law does not provide a mathematical formula for the determination of alimony, it is critical to have guidance from an attorney who understands the many factors that affect alimony.

CHILD CUSTODY AND CHILD SUPPORT
We will work together to negotiate agreements regarding custody, parenting time and child support issues. Our attorneys also have significant experience representing parents, grandparents and third parties in local, interstate and international custody disputes.

MODIFICATION OF CUSTODY AND CHILD SUPPORT
Modifications to child custody, parenting time and child support are often necessary when the provisions outlined in an original decree may no longer be in the best interest of you and/or your family. Our firm has significant experience negotiating and, when necessary, litigating these matters.

CONTEMPT AND POST-DECREE ENFORCEMENT
Levine Smith Snider & Coburn attorneys have many years of experience assisting with the enforcement of family law decrees. Whether your matter is related to property division, alimony, child custody or child support, we can assist you with the enforcement of your order, or represent you if you are defending such actions.

PRENUPTIAL AND POSTNUPTIAL AGREEMENTS
We draft and review prenuptial and postnuptial agreements on behalf of our clients to ensure their rights are protected and their obligations are clear, fair and understood in the case of a dissolution of a marriage.

PATERNITY AND LEGITIMATION
When a child in Georgia is born to unmarried parents, issues of paternity and legitimation often arise. We represent mothers and fathers who seek to obtain orders regarding child custody, parenting time and child support.

RESTRAINING AND PROTECTIVE ORDERS/FAMILY VIOLENCE
Our firm’s attorneys have an in-depth understanding of Georgia domestic violence law. We guide clients through the process of filing petitions for temporary protective orders, and we represent clients at hearings regarding the transition of temporary protective orders to permanent protective orders against persons who have committed acts of domestic violence.

GUARDIAN AD LITEM
Several Levine Smith Snider & Coburn attorneys have been appointed as Guardians Ad Litem in Georgia. A Guardian Ad Litem may be selected in order to advocate for the best interest of a child during a divorce or other child custody proceeding.

MEDIATION
Mediation is a process that involves a registered mediator and/or experienced family law attorney serving as a neutral party to help facilitate settlement negotiations between the parties. Our attorneys represent clients at mediations of all family law issues and also act as mediators in family law matters.

ARBITRATION
Arbitration is a procedure in which a neutral party, typically an experienced family law attorney, reviews all issues in a case and subsequently renders a decision, which is usually binding upon the parties. Our attorneys represent clients at arbitration of all family law issues and also act as arbitrators in family law matters.

LATE-CLASS EVALUATIONS
Levine Smith Snider & Coburn attorneys often serve as late-case evaluators who analyze the details of divorce and other family law matters in order to provide a neutral, third-party assessment of a case. Late-case evaluations are typically utilized to help guide the parties and attorneys toward settlement of a case prior to preparation for trial.

APPEALS
Levine Smith Snider & Coburn has significant experience seeking appeals of family law judgments when there is a possibility of legal error in the trial court.
